The Parent Initiatives

sldParent

YWEP recognizes that parental involvement is a key factor in reducing high school dropout rates and increasing graduation rates. Parental involvement is defined as the participation of parents in every facet of children’s education and development from birth to adulthood. Parents are the primary influence in children’s lives. Parents are a major influence on their children’s achievement in school and through life. Studies have found that students with involved parents, no matter what their income or background, are more likely to:

  • Earn high grades and test scores, and enroll in higher-level programs
  • Pass their classes, earn credits, and be promoted
  • Attend school regularly
  • Graduate and go on to postsecondary education.

The Gentlemen’s Network - The Fatherhood

The Fatherhood is implemented in a 5-part series format over the course of 5-week cycles, one day a week for two hours per session. Each session provides proven, effective skills for healthy family relationships, manhood development, and child development. The Fatherhood sessions give active understanding of the role of a Dad, how to be a better Dad, as well as skills on how to co-parent for the sake of the child. Participants will journal weekly to reflect and apply the lesson. Men who participate in The Fatherhood gain a wrap-around support system that truly meets the individual needs of each participant. This approach develops fathering skills as well as the individual.
